Settling In

We are settling into the Palm Shadows RV Park in Donna, Texas, located in the Rio Grande River Valley, locally referred to simply as "The Valley". We are about a 45 minute drive from the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico and about 10 miles from the Mexican border. We parked "The Bus" on our assigned site, put out the awning, and began settling in for the Winter. We have a nice large concrete patio extending from behind "The Bus" all the way to the street.

There is lots to see and do in The Valley. This will be our home base for the Winter.

The Palm Shadows RV Park is a very complete RV facility and the grounds are clean and well cared for. A guard house is located at the main entrance which opens on to a palm tree lined boulevard leading to the main building . . .

As you can see in the photo below, the Park includes a mixture of RV's (motor homes, fifth wheels, and travel trailers) as well as permanently located "Park Models". I estimate 50% of the sites in the Park have "Park Models", but many of the RVer's also contract for their lot on an annual basis.

The pool . . . and the hot tub are very inviting.

As are the shuffleboard courts . . . and the Bocce Ball courts . . .

. . . and the horseshoe pits.

There are lots of activities here to keep anyone busy; arts & crafts, cards, billiards, wood working shop, computer classes, bowling & golf leagues . . . all in addition to pancake breakfasts, biscuits & gravy breakfasts, taco lunches, and hamburger & pizza nights as well as pot luck suppers. Special dinner events are held in the dining room.

Light food and beer & wine (as well as set-ups) are served in The Lounge. The Lounge also has an intimate stage where music groups play for karaoke and dancing.

Shows are performed and dances are held in a large Auditorium.

Certainly not everyone participates in all of the activities, but boredom is not an option here!
