The weather was nice, calm, and warm . . . about 75 degrees. The sky was partly cloudy and it was New Year's Eve, a time to share with friends. So we invited neighbors to our patio for an afternoon of snacks, hors d'oeuvers, and a libation or two. I thought we must have had at least 40 guests, but Carole said she counted 20. Our large patio was full, so I guess it must have a capacity of 20.
Even though a cold front blew through during our patio party dropping the temperature to 68 degrees, everyone had a good time enjoying each others company . . . a typically diverse group of "Winter Texans" from Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Colorado, Vermont, Manitoba, and Ontario.
In the evening, most of us went to the New Year's Eve Dance at the Rec Hall here in the park. The music was good, the food was great, and we met many more new "Winter Texans".
Carole really enjoys dancing and had a great time. I can't keep up with her on all of the various dance steps, so she grabbed other guys for the boogie numbers. As usual, she took her shoes off, then complained the next day that her feet hurt.
Our good friends from Manitoba, Ron & Janet Wiltshire, were celebrating their wedding anniversary on New Years Eve, so we all had a piece of anniversary cake. Congratulations Ron & Janet!
We left the dance before midnight and retired to "The Bus" where we watched the ball fall on Times Square in New York and quietly reflected on the close of 2008 and the promise of 2009. We have many opportunities and adventures to look forward to as we wander through a fresh New Year.
